New Young Single Adult Congregation in Cape Fear area

The Fayetteville North Carolina Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a new congregation. Today, members of the Fayetteville North Carolina Stake Presidency and the Fayetteville West Stake Presidency held a service at 3200 Scotty Hill Road in Fayetteville to create the Cape Fear River Young Single Adult Branch (Cape Fear River YSA Branch). This congregation will serve young single adults (Ages 18-30) in Clinton, Dunn, Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Lumberton, and Raeford, North Carolina.

With the formation of the new congregation came the announcement of a new branch presidency. Phillip Allen accepted the call to serve as the Branch President with Randy Pope as his First Counselor and Erik Kunz as his Second Counselor.

President Allen addressed the congregation and said he was excited to work with the young single adults and minister to those in need.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a lay ministry. Bishops, Branch Presidents, and other local leaders serve voluntarily, without pay, and do so in addition to the family, employment, and other community responsibilities. Members do not generally request specific positions. Instead, local leaders extend assignments after seeking guidance from the Lord through prayer.

Today's meeting addressed the formation of the Morganton Road YSA Branch in May 2004 that covered all of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and twelve counties. The Morganton Road YSA is a congregation of the Fayetteville West Stake. Some young single adults currently residing within the Morganton Road YSA Branch boundaries will now attend the Cape Fear River YSA Branch.

Brady Smith, President of the Fayetteville West Stake, addressed the congregation and stated, "Breaking up is hard to do! Some of you have become really good friends. Don't let the change get you down. Instead, let the change make a positive impact on your life. Use this transition to find more strength, depth, and desire to become like your Savior, Jesus Christ. Let this time be a wonderful time in your life. New friendships you make will help you. The Lord wants you to give your will to Him."

President Jeffrey Quick, President of the Fayetteville North Carolina Stake, also addressed the congregation. He mentioned how excited he was to have this new addition to his stake. "Trust in the process," stated Quick. President Quick encouraged the young single adults by teaching principles from Alma 32 in the Book of Mormon. He compared our efforts to a seed that grows into a tree. "This small branch of the Church will allow the Lord to grow His Church in miraculous ways, and you can be a part of this work from its start. We all resist change, and that's okay. Be humble. Lift where you stand. The more you put in, the more you will get out of it."

The Cape Fear River YSA congregation meets at 3200 Scotty Hill Road in Fayetteville North Carolina. All single adults aged 18 through 30 are invited to join worship services each Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
