Light the World: A Season of Service

A Silent Night Surprise in Times Square | #LightTheWorld

The holiday season is a time for giving, and what better way to give than by serving others? The Light the World initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages people to transform Christmas into a season of service by doing things that Jesus did, such as feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone.

If you’re looking for ways to participate in the initiative in Fayetteville, NC and the surrounding area, here are some service projects that you can consider:

  • Donate to the Fayetteville Urban Ministry: The Fayetteville Urban Ministry is a non-profit organization that provides food, shelter, and other services to people in need in the Fayetteville area. You can donate money, food, or other items to help support their mission. For more information please visit: Fayetteville Urban Ministry (fayurbmin.org)

  • Volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank: The Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina is a non-profit organization that distributes food to people in need in the Fayetteville area. You can volunteer your time to help sort and distribute food, or you can organize a food drive to collect donations. For more information please visit: Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina - AmpleHarvest.org

  • Participate in the Giving Machine: The Giving Machine is a vending machine that allows you to purchase items such as food, clothing, and hygiene kits for people in need. For more information please visit: See Where You Can Donate to a Light the World Giving Machine (churchofjesuschrist.org).

  • Write letters to soldiers: The Fayetteville community is home to many military families, and writing letters to soldiers is a great way to show your appreciation for their service. For more information please visit: Cards & Letters to the troops - Support Our Troops

Remember, the Light the World initiative is not just about doing service during the holiday season. It’s about making service a part of your life all year round. By serving others, we can make the world a brighter and better place.
