The Fayetteville North Carolina Stake Seminary program graduated another group of Seminary youth this Sunday.
The Seminary program is designed for youth ages 14 to 18 (typically high school years), and students are enrolled in conjunction with their other activities. It lasts for nine months each year, and each local church unit will have a dedicated teacher. Over half a million high school-age students attend these classes around the world.
Having just come out of socially-distanced learning, many seminary students enjoyed in-person classes this year. The focus was the Old Testament considering the various doctrines and lessons presented to us from this wonderful book of scripture. The students learned of the love of God, His creation of the world, and the difficult, yet marvelous choices that our first parents, Adam and Eve, made. The students also learned of the ongoing trials and tribulations that the people of God experienced when they repeatedly made choices counter to the will of God. They also learned how God will continuously stretch out His hand to us in spite of our poor choices.
The students focused on several core doctrines and principles this year, to include the nature of God and the alignment of His purpose from the beginning of time until the present day. In the end, all of what they learn is centered around Christ, specifically the Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. Though this is seemingly not covered directly in the Old Testament, it is foreshadowed and prophesied. This is the enduring focus of all scripture, which is to testify of the divinity of the Savior, His purpose, and our role in both accepting and emulating Him throughout our lives. This is the greatest hope of all Seminary teachers and students, that they gain a better comprehension of the Savior's sacrifice for us which becomes a driving force in our life to do and be better, to sacrifice, and to testify of the goodness of God in all things.
We look forward to celebrating these graduates as they move into adulthood and continue to dedicate their lives to goodness and sacrifice.
